Shooting gallery

It was like the Duck Hunt at Kennywood. The shootout looked pretty sloppy tonight for the Pens and Habs. Goalies made easy saves for the most part, and the lack of accuracy on the shots was noteworthy. Only four Penguins shooters hit the goalie with the puck. Finally, the 16th shooter – Montreal's Andrei Markov – nailed the ender.

Happy President's Day to newest Penguins player Tyler Kennedy. Do you remember what player wore #48 before Kennedy?

Oh, Canada

Thought their were fewer Leafs fans in the Igloo tonight. Love the rivalry. They won the game tonight. As much as we hate to admit this, there is one area that Toronto fans DOMINATE over the Pittsburgh faithful...singing their national anthem. We know it's an easier song, but the patriotism that comes through is resounding.

A blooming flower?

Give Marc-Andre Fleury credit. Just last week the blogs had Ray Shero in search of a veteran goaltender to help Fluery and many people where quick to hit the panic button. Fleury has given up one goal in the last 120 minutes. Suddenly the panic button is harder to find. When time passes and the defensive pairings become more stable, the stability in net will improve too.

Damn, Devils

Yet another tight game with the Devils. The Pens and Devils have played each other 175 times and 55 of those games have been one-goal games, or ties (remember the ties?) Despite the loss, tonight was enjoyable. Kudos to the new NHL that ensures that the Devils can no longer salt-away a two-goal lead.

Garden party

51 years ago the Pittsburgh Hornets were preparing to close the books on the final season at Duquesne Gardens, their home of 20 years. Here's a peek of the Hornets' in action at the Duquesne Gardens:

(What Would Gary Roberts Do?) These wrist bands are a tribute to current Penguins' Chuck-Norris-like guy, Gary Roberts. You can see the details over at The PensBlog – one of our favorite blogs. Check out their content. Solid. Funny. Accurate.

Robert Morris rising, 'how bout another banner?

Congratulations to the Robert Morris Colonials and coach Derek Schooley for defeating the ninth-ranked Boston University en route to winning the Nye Frontier Classic in Anchorage. An giant step for a fourth year program!

Seeing all of Toronto's honored numbers in the Air Canada Center reminds us that we need to have a few more numbers retired in Pittsburgh. #77 and #35 get our votes. We should honor – without retiring – other numbers. #30 for Les Binkley and #7 for Joe Mullen, for sure. The new building will need to be decorated too. Check out the Penguins All-Time number list.

Happy Birthday, Pens

Forty years – we must admit it, there were times that we never thought we'd get here. FSN Pittsburgh's Dan Potash did an excellent feature on this historic day:
